About Us

Immigrants from African continent constitute the largest portion of the growing population in America. The familiarization process into this new environment becomes a challenging and daunting task for many immigrants, both new and old. Navigating and adjusting through the numerous and unprecedented challenges such as mental, social & psychological instabilities, education, employment, depression, and feeling home sick become a singular journey.

AFRISS was established in 2017 to help African immigrants people mitigate life’s challenges and adjust to them. AFRISS has a singular duty to improve lives and serve anyone who seeks our help irrespective of race, ethnicity or origin. While we continue to focus on refugee and immigrant communities across Chicagoland, we open our doors to welcome everyone.

AFRISS’s vision is to build an integrated and sustainable African community that positively contributes to the society. The primary purpose of AFRISS is:

GOALS

We are inspired by passion and compassion for the well-being of people. AFRISS seeks:
  • Providing charitable assistance to needy people of the Chicagoland Community;
  • Providing guidance, counseling and assistance to the newly arrived refugees in their resettlement efforts;
  • Promoting educational activities for the kids, youth, and adults in our Community and Chicagoland area;
  • Enhancing social and cultural activities through the creation of a common center;
  • Encouraging, motivating and guiding individuals who strive to start new careers;
  • Providing information and referral services on education, employment, health care, and housing;
  • Assisting on immigration issues and legal cases.
